Antioch Neighborhood Calls For Peace Following Multiple Shootings

ANTIOCH (KCBS) – Community members who live in the Antioch neighborhood near Sycamore Drive took to the streets on Wednesday afternoon, demanding peace following multiple shootings in the area this week.

A 19-year-old man was shot in the head on Monday night and is now paralyzed from the chest down.

KCBS' Tim Ryan Reports:

Robert Watson, who lives in the neighborhood, said the violence has to end.

"We're running over to the house trying to get away from gunshots. They were on every side of my house," he said. "I can't take it. My little children should be able to play out on the streets."

The shooting was one of two reported on Sycamore Drive on Monday. And just hours before Wednesday's community rally, more gunshots rang out, as an exchange of .40 caliber gunfire was heard nearby.

Residents point to drug and gang turf wars as the root of the violence.
