Antioch Mother Flees With Infant, Leaves 4-Year-Old Behind When Burglar Comes Into Home
ANTIOCH (CBS SF) -- A 4-year-old girl pointed out a hiding burglar in her Antioch home Monday evening after her mother saw the burglar and fled, leaving the little girl inside, police said.
Bliss Yeager was holding her infant inside the home in the 4900 block of Ridgeview Drive at about 7:45 p.m. when the burglar came into the home through an unlocked door, police said.
Yeager fled out the front door with the baby, but left 4-year-old Nae Nae inside, police said.
"I was able to take a picture of him, (I was) calling 911, by that time I got up, I mean, he was walking toward upstairs like he was living here, like it's his house," said Yeager. "Then that was my chance to go out - because I had my baby and that was my chance to go outside but my fear was my daughter was upstairs, (my) four-year-old daughter. So that was the scary part."
The incident happened during a time when an older brother and the father had gone to the Warriors playoff game.
Police told the brother the man went upstairs and found his little sister. "He went in my little sister's room who was in the room by herself." said brother Jess Yeager. "My mom rushed outside to try to contact neighbors and stuff to get some help."
Officers arrived and found the Nae Nae at the top of the home's stairs.
Police sent the little girl out to her mother. She told her mother she saw the burglar hide in her bedroom closet, police said.
The mother told the officers and they found the suspect hiding in the closet. He refused to come out but after a brief struggle he was arrested and identified as Demaria Lopez, a 21-year-old homeless man, police said.
Lopez was booked into jail in Martinez on suspicion of burglary and resisting arrest, police said.
No one was injured in the incident, according to police.
