Antioch Man Gets 5 Years For Hanging Girlfriend's Puppy
ANTIOCH (AP) -- A 26-year-old Antioch man will be serving time in prison for killing his girlfriend's puppy.
The Contra Costa Times reports that Gerald Anthony Ortega Jr. was sentenced to five years in prison Thursday after reaching a plea deal with prosecutors and pleading no contest to animal cruelty and other charges.
Prosecutors say Ortega broke into his girlfriend's home in Concord on April 27 and hanged her Jack Russell terrier puppy from a ceiling fan with an electrical cord.
Besides the animal cruelty charge, Ortega also pleaded no contest to two counts of inflicting corporal injury, false imprisonment by force or violence and criminal threats.
