Antioch Group Vows To Make Streets Safer
ANTIOCH (KCBS)- A group of residents is vowing to take back the streets from criminals in Antioch. The movement was prompted by a feeling that the city is no longer safe for families.
KCBS' Bob Butler Reports:
At a community meeting over the weekend, speaker after speaker complained about graffiti, vandalism, burglaries, assaults, even murder.
"My neighbors sit on our cars, they throw broken bottles in the street, they throw trash around and they're not taking care of their homes, and they have currently began to vandalize my home," said one woman.
Many in the crowd of 150 promised to help.
The group, called Take Back Antioch, was started by 23-year old Brittany Gougeon.
"We're going to tackle her problems," Gougeon said of the angry neighbor. "We're going to see if we can help her establish relationships with people in her neighborhood, and maybe even march on the street."
