Anti-Violence Activists Hold 2nd Annual San Francisco 'Slut Walk'
SAN FRANCISCO (CBS SF) - A national campaign to counter excuses for rape and violence against women drew a crowd to San Francisco's Dolores Park Saturday.
The movement, known as Slut Walk, started in Toronto last year after an officer suggested that women may not want to dress provocatively if they wan to avoid being targeted by predators. In response, organizers rallied to point out that a woman's style of dress is no excuse for sexual assault, and that victims shouldn't be blamed for such crimes.
Events, which have taken place in many major cities including Dallas and Boston and several international locations, feature scantily clad protesters, speakers and anti-violence workshops.
Saturday's event featured both women and men speaking out against rape and carrying signs with slogans such as "my dress is not a 'yes'," and "My outfit is not an invitation."
