Another Video Released Showing Alleged SFPD Misconduct
SAN FRANCISCO (KCBS) – San Francisco Public Defender Jeff Adachi has released a new surveillance video that he said shows more police misconduct during a drug arrest.
This latest video is of a drug bust at the Jefferson Hotel on December 30, 2010.
Adachi said it shows officers illegally searching a room at the hotel, taking a bag that belonged to the resident and then physically attacking a bystander.
The man who was arrested that night, Fernando Santana, said he had hats, DVDs and other items in the bag that were taken.
KCBS' Chris Filippi Reports:
"I got it for Christmas and I never imagined it would be police officers that did it," Santana said. "I thought it was staff."
The drug case against Santana was later dismissed and the video has been handed over to San Francisco Police.
San Francisco Police Chief Greg Suhr said he has made getting to the bottom of this case the top priority of the department's Internal Affairs division.
"I immediately initiated an investigation. We pretty much shutdown on all the other cases," Suhr said. "I believe that the character of my officers is paramount."
In March, Adachi released other videos that he said showed officer misconduct during drug busts at the Henry Hotel. Those claims are now being investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation.
