Animal Update: Macy's Holiday Window
SAN FRANCISCO (KCBS) - Macy's holiday windows feature adoptable animals from the San Francisco SPCA. That's today's topic on Animal Update with Dr. Jack Aldridge, Director of Veterinary Services at the San Francisco SPCA.
It seems the holidays come earlier every year, but this is a really exciting time for the San Francisco SPCA since their animals are the stars of Macy's holiday windows at Union Square.
Animal Update with KCBS' Jeff Bell and SF SPCA's Dr. Jack Aldridge:
"For 25 years the SF SPCA has been showcasing adoptable animals in the Union Square holiday windows," said Aldridge. "Macy's designs their windows to showcase cats, kittens, dogs and puppies from the San Francisco SPCA, all in a safe and constantly monitored environment, where the needs of the animals come first," he continued. "And there's an adoption center right inside Macy's, so you can take your new love of your life home the same day.
The holiday window partnership has become something of a holiday tradition.
"USA Today voted the windows 'one of the top ten places to press your nose against' during the holidays," Aldridge boasted. "For me...the magic of the holiday season begins with my first look at those animals in the windows."
Last year, more than 300 animals found new families at the adoption center outpost in Macy's, and influenced many more to visit the SF SPCA's main adoption center. Additionally, more than $70,000 in donations was raised, which helps to support programs and services to the community throughout the year."
The great unveiling takes place Friday, November 18 at 5:00 p.m. at Macy's Union Square. The animals will be in the windows every day until January 1, with the exception of Thanksgiving Day and Christmas Day, when the store is closed.
