Two Dead In Horrific San Leandro Amtrak Accident
SAN LEANDRO (KCBS) -- An Amtrak train collided with a car in San Leandro Tuesday afternoon killing a woman and a young child inside the car.
Firefighters responded at 1:19 p.m. to reports of a collision on the railroad tracks in the area of Washington Avenue and Chapman Road, fire spokeswoman Aisha Knowles said.
The crash involved a dark green SUV and an Amtrak train. The train traveled about a quarter of a mile on the tracks after the crash before coming to a stop.

A passenger on the train that spoke with KCBS said the train's whistle was blowing, and the train was braking before the crash. The passenger estimated the train would be stopped for at least an hour.
Alameda County Fire tweeted out a photo of the scene shortly before 2 p.m. and confirmed that there were two fatalities in the collision.
The accident involved Capital Corridor train #532 traveling northbound from San Jose to Sacramento, Amtrak officials said.
There were no injuries to the passengers or crew on the train. The passengers were transported by bus to another train and have continued to Sacramento, according to officials.
Amtrak is currently looking into the status of the arm gates at the intersection at the time of the incident. It was not determined yet if they were down when the accident happened.
The Amtrak crew was given go ahead by authorities to move the train from the location of the incident location shortly after 3 p.m.
At one point, four trains were delayed as a result of the incident, officials said. There were still some residual delays.
