Amtrak Train Kills Pedestrian In Albany
ALBANY (BCN) - Service was slowly rebounding Friday morning nearly six hours after a pedestrian was fatally struck by an Amtrak train in Albany, a transportation official said.
At 6:02 a.m., a pedestrian was trespassing on the tracks and was hit by westbound train No. 521, Amtrak spokeswoman Vernae Graham said.
The train carrying 52 passengers originated in Sacramento and was bound for San Jose, Graham said.
No one was injured.
There may have been another person on the tracks with the victim, Union Pacific spokesman Aaron Hunt said, though the incident remains under investigation.
The train tracks were open in both directions at 9:15 a.m. Service was originally delayed up to 90 minutes. Graham expected service to return to normal by midday.
The nearest grade crossing, an area with lights and gates designated for vehicle and pedestrian crossing, is at Central Avenue in Richmond, one-quarter mile south of where the incident took place, Hunt said.
Train 521 continued to San Jose without passengers, who were switched to another train after the accident.
