Amtrak Reports Record Ridership Along California Corridor
OAKLAND (KCBS) -Whether it is due to high gas prices, freeway congestion or something else, the Capitol Corridor train from San Jose to Placer County is more popular than ever before, according to new figures from Amtrak California.
The rail line has reported record ridership along the route, which runs between San Jose's Diridon Station and Auburn, through the East Bay and Sacramento.
The Capitol Corridor has been particularly popular among state employees who live beyond the Capitol.
"I've been doing it for the past three years and there's probably been maybe five occurrences where I've been late out of the three years that I've been doing it," chimed in one Sacramento State student who was boarding a train Tuesday morning in Oakland. "So far, so good."

During a 12-month period ending Sept. 20, 2011, 1.7 million passengers boarded Capitol Corridor trains, translating into $27 million in fare collections.
