America's Cup In San Francisco May Help Vallejo Economy
VALLEJO (KCBS) -- When the America's Cup sails into San Francisco in 2013, it's expected to bring an economic windfall to the city of Vallejo, and business leaders are planning a major campaign to attract visitors. They think the city can play a role in accommodating spectators for the world's most prestigious sailing race.
"We're located on the bay and there's a waterway that comes right through here up to the Napa River," said Mike Browne, the director of the Vallejo Convention and Visitors Bureau. "We have access to the marina, so there's places for spectators to get her by their boats."
KCBS' Dave Padilla Reports:
Browne's counterpart, Rich Curtola of the Chamber of Commerce, said a marketing campaign isn't too far behind.
"We are planning on putting together a task force up here to work with that whole congregation and make this thing happen," he said.
According to Curtola, Vallejo has the second-oldest yacht club in the Bay Area.
