Students Robbed, Injured Near American Canyon High School
AMERICAN CANYON (CBS SF) -- A group of students were robbed and injured near American Canyon High School Wednesday, triggering a lockdown of the school and sending the students to the hospital for treatment.
The Napa County Sheriff's Office said five students from American Canyon High School were robbed off campus at 12:15 p.m. by two males not affiliated with the school. The students were robbed of shoes, cellphones and jewelry, the sheriff's office said. The student ran back to campus after being robbed and out of an abundance of caution, the school was locked down, the office said.
The Napa Valley Unified School District sent out a message to parents saying: "Today, near American Canyon High School, a group of students was attacked and some students were injured. The incident is over, and if you have not heard from the school, your students is not involved. All the parents of the students who were injured have been notified."
The high school was placed on lockdown at 12:30 p.m. and it was lifted around 1:30 p.m. The sheriff's office said the two suspects were identified and taken into custody off campus grounds.
The students suffered injuries that were non-life threatening, the sheriff's office said. The Napa Valley Register reported that some studens were taken to Queen of the Valley Medical Center in Napa and another patient was going to Kaiser Hospital in Vallejo.
"There was no incident on the American Canyon High School campus," said Henry Wofford, a spokesman for the Napa County Sheriff's Office. "It was near the campus, so the campus was locked down as a precautionary safety measure."
