Amazon Proposes Prime Slice Of Air Space For Drone Delivery

MOFFETT FIELD (CBS SF) - Amazon is making a pitch for a prime slice of air space to facilitate high speed package delivery using drones.

Amazon unveiled its plan Tuesday at the NASA Ames space facility at Moffett Field, the Guardian reported.

The online giant is proposing the 200 foot slice of air space between 200 and 400 feet be reserved for what they call high-speed transit, which would include sophisticated drones able to communicate with each other, and fly at speeds of nearly 70 mph.

To satisfy concerns of safety experts, Amazon is also proposing a 100 foot buffer zone above the high-speed transit air space to separate the drones from passenger and cargo planes.
