Alleged Gang Members Charged In Antioch Birthday Party Slaying
ANTIOCH (CBS/AP) - Prosecutors have charged five alleged gang members with murder in the shooting death of a 16-year-old boy at a birthday party in Antioch.
Investigators say Martin Navarro of Oakley was fatally shot on Aug. 20 after his ex-girlfriend alerted her current boyfriend Navarro was at the party.
Acting police Lt. Diane Aguinaga said Carlos Guzman directed four fellow gang members to "take action." Police say Navarro was an associate of a rival gang.
Authorities say 18-year-old Ricky Mendoza and 19-year-old Tony Martin shot Navarro. A 17-year-old girl was also wounded.
Murder and gang enhancement charges were filed against Mendoza, Martin, Guzman, Leon Moreno, 19, and Christopher Donaldson, 21.
Guzman's girlfriend, 18-year-old Jessica Juarez of Brentwood, was charged with conspiracy.
Lawyers for the defendants could not immediately be reached for comment.
