Alex Smith Threatened With NFL Fine For Wearing SF Giants Hat
SAN FRANCISCO (CBS SF) - San Francisco 49ers Quarterback Alex Smith, who has worn a San Francisco Giants cap to post-game press conferences in recent years, could be slapped with a $15,000 fine by the NFL if he does it again, according to the Bay Area News Group.
According to the league's dress code, players must not wear non-sponsored gear for 90 minutes before and after games. Major League Baseball apparel would fall under the non-sponsored gear category.
Smith told the Bay Area News Group's Cam Inman that the league had already retracted an initial fine of $15,000 for a previous instance, and instead him a warning to stop wearing the cap. The NFL official in charge of enforcing the dress code is former 49ers safety Merton Hanks.
Smith told Inman that the change of attire won't deter him from pulling for the Giants as they push for the playoffs.
In response to the news, the Giants posted a photo of Manager Bruce Bochy sporting a 49ers cap in the dugout on their Facebook page.
