Alameda County Supervisors Accept Resignation Of Nadia Lockyer
OAKLAND (KCBS) – Alameda County supervisors will be appointing a replacement to serve on the board for the first time since 2000 after officially accepting the resignation of Nadia Lockyer on Tuesday.
Lockyer was elected to office in 2010 but has been embroiled in a pair of scandals this year after reports surfaced about her drug addiction and an extramarital affair with an ex-boyfriend.
KCBS' Dave Padilla Reports:
Alameda County Supervisor Wilma Chan said her departure from office was not that unexpected given the recent news and now, the board is ready to act.
"We will talk about a process going forward to make the appointment," Chan said. "The board has 60 days to make an appointment to replace her or else the governor will do it. But we plan to make an appointment."
Chan said the board has been through this before.
"In the past when this happened, we had an application period and people applied," she said. "Then we go through an interview process. It will all be public and then we will make a selection."
Chan was actually the last supervisor to resign in late 2000 when she left for the California Assembly.
Lockyer's office did not offer to comment.
