1 Killed, Another Critically Injured In Shooting Outside Bar Near San Leandro
SAN LEANDRO (CBS SF) -- Sheriff's deputies arrested a suspect who allegedly shot two people, killing one and leaving another with life-threatening injuries, early Saturday morning after a dispute outside a bar near San Leandro.
Around 2 a.m., deputies responded to a report of a shooting outside of a bar at 150th Avenue and Robin Street, according to Alameda County sheriff's spokesman Sgt. Ray Kelly.
Upon arrival, officers located a 43-year-old man lying on the sidewalk outside the bar, suffering from a gunshot wound to the head, Kelly said.
Around the same time, deputies learned that another person had just been shot about a block away, near 150th Avenue and East 14th Street.
There, an armed suspect was chasing another victim and shot him in the foot, according to Kelly.
When deputies arrive at that scene, they found the suspect standing over the victim, covered in blood and holding a gun.
Deputies were able to detain the suspect and recover the gun, Kelly said.
Deputies determined the same suspect shot both victims. The shooting occurred after the suspect allegedly approached a group standing outside the bar and for an unknown reason got into a verbal confrontation with them.
The suspect then shot the first victim. When the crowd dispersed, the suspect chased after the second victim, shooting at him, according to Kelly.
Both victims were taken to a hospital. The first victim found lying outside the bar was pronounced dead at the hospital.
The second victim suffered life-threatening injuries and remains in a coma, Kelly said.
The suspect, a 34-year-old man, was arrested on suspicion of murder and attempted murder. His identity has not yet been released, according to Kelly.
"This appears to be a senseless act of violence and were looking into any connections between the victims and the suspect," Kelly said.
"We were very lucky that we got onto the scene quick and were able to catch the suspect and save the second victim from being murdered, yet he's still fighting for his life."
