'Aladdin' Stars Sign Up For Another Year On Broadway

NEW YORK (AP) — Fans of "Aladdin" on Broadway have gotten their wish — the show's Genie and its leading actors will be sticking around.

Disney Theatrical Productions said Friday that Tony Award-winner/Hayward-born James Monroe Iglehart, who plays the Genie, extended his contract through February 2017, joining Adam Jacobs as Aladdin, Jonathan Freeman as Jafar, Courtney Reed as Jasmine, Brian Gonzales as Babkak, Clifton Davis as the Sultan and Don Darryl Rivera as Iago.

"Aladdin," a musical adaptation of the 1992 movie starring Robin Williams, opened on Broadway in March 2014 and has become one of Broadway's highest grossing shows.

Key Alan Menken songs from the film — including "Friend Like Me," ''Prince Ali" and "A Whole New World" — are used. The lyricists are by the late Howard Ashman, Tim Rice and Beguelin.
