More Travelers Flying From Mineta San Jose Airport

SAN JOSE (KCBS) --- More and more air travelers are choosing to fly out of Silicon Valley, and air traffic is definitely heading skyward at Mineta San Jose International Airport.

"We have nearly five percent more passengers in March this year compared to March last year," said airport spokesperson David Vossbrink.

KCBS' Matt Bigler Reports:

That's the 7th straight month of passenger increases, he added.  It's welcome news for airport officials who have watched passenger numbers drop off since 2007. Vossbrink sees it as a sign of an improving economy. Jennifer Kwasniewski, who flew into San Jose  from Las Vegas agrees.

"People are out and doing stuff," she said. "They're not sitting home."

There's also increased business travel, and Vossbrink said many of the flights leaving the airport are full.

Airlines are still hesitant to add flights, however, especially now that the cost of jet fuel is going up.
