1 Killed In 2-Alarm Richmond House Fire
RICHMOND (CBS SF) - A 24-year-old man was killed in a fire in Richmond Wednesday afternoon, the city's fire chief said.
The two-alarm fire was reported at 2:06 p.m. at a two-story home at 1511 S. 59th St., at Highland Avenue, Fire Chief Michael Banks said.
When firefighters arrived, they were told there might be someone stuck inside the home on the upper floor so they used a ladder to check out the upstairs but didn't find anyone, he said.
They later found the victim on the first floor in a bedroom area, he said. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Firefighters controlled the blaze at 2:37 p.m.
The victim's parents arrived at the scene while firefighters were still there. "We informed them of their son's death," Banks said.
The man's name had not yet been released.
Banks estimated that the fire caused at least $200,000 in damage to the home. He said a dog escaped the fire.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
"We don't really know all the circumstances of what occurred yet," he said.
