3 Bank Rob Suspects Arrested After Hayward Chase, Crash
HAYWARD (KCBS/BCN) - Three Fremont bank robbery suspects were arrested Tuesday after a chase that ended with the suspect car crashing in Hayward, according to authorities.
The chase began following a robbery at a U.S. Bank branch on 39390 Fremont Blvd. in Fremont about 9:30 a.m., said Fremont Police Sergeant Chris Mazzone.
"One of our sergeants responding to the scene spotted the suspect vehicle," said Mazzone. "They tried to stop the vehicle and it turned into a pursuit through Union City, and up into Hayward."
However, Mazzone said the chase did not last long because the suspects crashed through a fence outside a Hayward thrift store on Mission Blvd. between Industrial and Valley Vista. Two suspects were arrested at the scene. A third, who fled on foot, was found within the hour, hiding in a trash can on the grounds of an adjacent Islamic community center.
It's unclear if the suspects were armed. When the three robbed the bank Mazzone said they never showed any guns, or told people in the bank they were armed.
There were no injuries in the crash or the bank robbery. No word on the identity of the suspects.
