After 11 Years In Pleasanton, Teleconferencing Firm Returning To San Jose
SAN JOSE (KCBS) – Teleconferencing company Polycom is moving its headquarters back to San Jose, which could eventually bring up to 700 jobs to the city.
The company moved from San Jose to Pleasanton back in 2000. Robert Teed, Polycom's Vice President of Real Estate, said the move back is mainly to have a presence in Silicon Valley and to provide more space for the growing company.
KCBS' Mike Colgan Reports:
"The jobs that we're willing to bring to San Jose in the next few years are quite material for us," he said. "We very much look forward to that. It's probably in the area of 200-300, maybe more. That's how large we're going to build our facility and so we look forward to doing that."
San Jose Mayor Chuck Reed said that the company is moving into a great neighborhood on Highway 237 at 6001 America Center Drive.
"It's next door to IBM. Just down the street is Cisco," Reed said. "It's a good neighborhood and we're pleased to have you in there."
Polycom has signed a 10-year lease on the six-story building. The City of San Jose is providing up to $200,000 for the acquisition of manufacturing equipment for the new facility.
