Afghan Community Grieves Over Fatal Concord Bike Crash
CONCORD (KCBS) — The Bay Area Afghan community is offering help to a Concord family that was struck by tragedy over the weekend.
A makeshift memorial along Treat Blvd. marks the spot where 41-year-old Solaiman Nuri and his 9-year-old daughter were killed while riding their bicycles on the sidewalk Saturday morning.
Nuri's 12-year-old daughter was also hit, but survived with minor injuries.
Hafiz Hassani, a close family friend, is president of the Aria Sports Club that caters to the Afghan community.
"The family itself is not going to accept too many offers. They're going to handle [it'] themselves," Hassani said explaining the family's need for privacy during this time of grief.

He described Nuri as a friendly, hard-working man who was always willing to give of his time to coach youth-soccer.
"He was one of the best persons I ever met," Hassani added.
Funeral arrangements are pending as relatives from New York and as far from Afghanistan fly in for services.
Charges have not been filed against a 17-year-old boy who, according to police, drove his SUV into the bicycling family on Saturday morning.
