Alleged Accomplice To Be Charged In Antioch Deadly Botched Burglary
MARTINEZ (CBS SF) - A Richmond woman who allegedly aided a break-in that turned deadly in Antioch Monday night has been charged with burglary with enhancements, police said Thursday.
Karea Morris, 21, was charged in Contra Costa County Superior Court Wednesday in connection to the deadly break-in, during which a homeowner shot and killed alleged intruder Jeremiah Stovall using Stovall's gun.
Stovall, an 18-year-old Antioch resident, was armed when he tried to break down the front door of a home on Wexler Peak Way around 8:20 p.m. Monday, police said.
Police said the home's 34-year-old resident, whose 7-year-old son was sleeping in another room, quickly confronted and fought the intruder.
The homeowner struggled with Stovall and grabbed his gun, then shot him multiple times, killing him.
During the struggle, Morris stood next to the doorway, but she fled the area when shots were fired, according to Antioch police Lt. Diane Aguinaga.
Police found and arrested her in the same neighborhood a short time later, the lieutenant said.
Both Morris and Stovall have a history of committing burglaries, police said.
Neither suspect knew the resident whose home they targeted Monday night, Aguinaga said.
Morris was being held on $160,000 bail.
