AC Transit Hands Out Free Bus Passes In Downtown SF
SAN FRANCISCO (CBS SF) - To raise awareness about its transbay bus service, AC Transit was handing out free bus passes at a summer kickoff event in San Francisco Tuesday.
Commuters were able to pick up the free passes at the Transbay Temporary Terminal at Howard and Beale streets from noon to 2 p.m.
The $25 passes, good for roughly five trips between San Francisco and the East Bay, will be loaded onto a Clipper Card and will be valid from today until July 3.
AC Transit makes more than 500 trips daily between the East Bay and San Francisco, including late-night bus service after BART stops running.
Many buses are even equipped with Wi-Fi service to allow commuters to check email and catch up on work during their commute.
The promotion comes nearly two weeks after many commuters learned of the transbay bus service firsthand during a BART shutdown caused by a fire near the West Oakland BART station on June 14.
The enormous demand by BART riders looking to get into San Francisco led AC Transit to run over 100 extra trips over the Bay Bridge that day.
Anyone with BART tickets was allowed to board transbay buses for free.
