2 Injured As AC Transit Bus In Oakland Is Sprayed With Gunfire
OAKLAND (KCBS/KPIX 5) - Two passengers were shot and wounded when someone opened fire Monday afternoon on an Alameda-Contra Costa Transit District bus, authorities said.
At least four gunshots were fired at the Line 1R bus as it traveled along its route in East Oakland about 2 p.m..
"The bus was traveling east on International Blvd. at about 9th Avenue when shots rang out from outside the bus," said AC Transit spokesman Clarence Johnson. "Our bus operator, as he is trained to do, continued to drive the bus about five blocks away to get it out of harm's way."
The bus finally stopped at International and 15th Avenue, where police found bus windows shattered and discovered two gunshot victims aboard -- a man in his 80s who was grazed by a bullet and a younger man who was wounded in the shoulder.
Both men were hospitalized in stable condition and were expected to recover from their injuries, Oakland Police Officer Erin Mausz said.
The shooting remained under investigation Monday night; police said they had no suspect or shooter description and also had not determined what may have prompted the attack.
