Abused Dog Needs New Home
SAN JOSE, Calif. (KCBS) - Animal rescue officials in Silicon Valley are hoping a loving family will open its doors to Max, an 11-year-old German Shepherd who spent most of his life cramped inside a crate.
Not only was he kept in the crate, but he had a rubber band embedded so deeply into his neck that his skin had grown over it.
"The people gave him to the animal control officers and brought him to us, we continued to work on fixing the neck, which required a lot of antibiotics, there was a lot of infection, open wounds," described Stephanie Ladiera with the Humane Society Silicon Valley.
Max also suffers from kidney failure.

The goal, said Ladiera, is to find Max a good home. "He's like a 33 lb. puppy, he's eleven years old, he's living life for the first time and he's so joyful, such a loving dog, that we knew that if we asked the community to help us with him that we would eventually be able to find him a spot for the rest of his life."
The Humane Society has offered to provide Max with a special prescription diet for the rest of his life.
