Packers, Ex-Cal QB Rodgers Calls Out Fan's Anti-Muslim Remark At Game
(CBS SF) – Green Bay Packers and former UC Berkeley quarterback Aaron Rodgers called out a fan who shouted an anti-Muslim remark before Sunday's game against the Detroit Lions.
Time Magazine reported that the fan shouted "Muslims suck" during a moment of silence for victims of last week's terror attacks in Paris, France.
Rodgers criticized the fan when he was asked about the tribute after the game.
"I think it's important to do things like that. We're in a connected world. Six degrees of separation," Rodgers said in his postgame news conference. "I must admit though I was very disappointed with whoever the fan was that made a comment that I thought was really inappropriate during the moment of silence. It's that kind of prejudicial ideology that puts us in the position that we're in today as a world."
The quarterback did not elaborate on what he heard the fan say.
The university voiced its support for Rodgers' comments in a tweet posted Monday afternoon. Rodgers played two seasons for the Golden Bears before being drafted by the Packers in 2005.
A moment of silence was held for the terror attack victims before every NFL game played on Sunday.
