8 Hurt After Teen Steals Car, Leads Police On Wild Chase In Vallejo
VALLEJO (CBS ) -- A 17-year-old is facing charges of auto theft, hit-and-run, and driving without a license after allegedly stealing a Hummer and leading police on a wild chase through Vallejo.
The chase began on Interstate 80 when Fairfield Police alerted the CHP. It continued through the streets of Vallejo and ended when the Hummer struck several vehicles.
The Hummer struck the first car while turning from Redwood Parkway onto Broadway. Four people were in that car, including a 5-year-old who suffered serious head injuries.
"In that car was a 5-year-old boy who did receive major head trauma and was transported by air to a children's hospital," said Ofc. Elon Steers of the California Highway Patrol.
The young boy's mother was also injured.
After that, the driver tried to make a run for it, hitting three more cars along the way at a red light.
The Hummer rolled over and the teen was arrested. He will face charges of stealing a vehicle, hit-and-run, and driving a vehicle without a license.
Eight people were injured in the crashes.
