77-Year-Old Man Goes Missing Off Mare Island
VALLEJO (CBS / AP) -- Solano County authorities are searching for a missing 77-year-old man who they believe fell into the waters between Vallejo and Mare Island.
The Vallejo Times-Herald reports that dive teams and patrol boats continued their search for Philip Mattingly of Fair Oaks in the Mare Island Strait on Monday.
Vallejo police Lt. Sid DeJesus said Mattingly's son called police around 8:30 a.m. Sunday to report that his father was missing. The retired mechanical engineer had been helping clean debris from a World War II warship docked on Mare Island, which was formerly a naval shipyard.
Mattingly's son, David, said his father did not return home Saturday. The son went to the ship and found everything unlocked but could not find his dad.
