70 Evacuated During Apartment Complex Fire In Mountain View
MOUNTAIN VIEW (CBS/AP) - A two-alarm fire prompted the evacuation of more than 70 apartments at a five-building complex in Mountain View early Tuesday morning, a fire department spokesman said.
The blaze was reported at 7:59 a.m. at 1571 W. El Camino Real.
Firefighters from Mountain View, Moffett Field and Palo Alto responded and extinguished the blaze by 8:30 a.m.
Nine apartments were damaged, and five appear to be uninhabitable, Mountain View Fire Department spokesman Lynn Brown said. Some of the units were damaged by the flames and others sustained water or smoke damage, he said.
The American Red Cross has been called to assist the displaced residents.
The damaged units are all in the same two-story building, he said.
Fire investigators are still looking into the cause of the fire and trying to determine where it started.
