7 People Injured In Concord Shooting, Vehicle Collision
CONCORD (CBS SF) -- Seven people were injured during a shooting and car crash in Concord on Monday afternoon, a California Highway Patrol spokesman said.
CHP Officer John Fransen said that an off-duty BART police officer was driving on westbound state Highway 4 on Monday afternoon when he saw a vehicle pull up alongside another vehicle and fire shots.
The off-duty BART police officer saw the suspect vehicle, described as a grey Nissan Altima, fire the shots near Willow Pass Road. After firing the shots, the driver of the Nissan sped up and then exited at Port Chicago Highway, Fransen said.
As the Nissan exited the roadway, the car smashed into four other vehicles, according to Fransen.
Three men inside the Nissan were injured during the crash. The CHP said there were two 21-year-old men and a 19-year-old man in that car.
Four other drivers were also injured and all seven injured parties were transported to the hospital with minor to moderate injuries, according to Fransen.
The CHP is investigating the shooting, while Concord police is investigating the crash.
Fransen said the CHP doesn't know if anyone was hit by gunfire.
