7 Homes Along San Mateo County Coast Burglarized
SAN MATEO COUNTY (BCN) -- The San Mateo County Sheriff's Office is warning coast side residents to lock doors and windows and keep an eye on potentially suspicious characters driving through neighborhoods after seven home burglaries were reported in the last two weeks.
Five burglaries have been reported in and around Moss Beach, according to the sheriff's office, and two were reported in the Clipper Ridge area of El Granada.
In each case, the burglars appear to have broken in through unlocked rear doors and windows, and the victimized homes were in neighborhoods with convenient access to state Highway 1.
The break-ins took place during the day and early evening hours, according to the sheriff's office.
Officials are recommending that residents secure all windows and doors and keep a vigilant eye on who is coming in and out of residential areas.
The sheriff's office recommends that a pen and paper be kept near a phone with a street view to keep a log of vehicles and individuals who seem out of place or unusual traveling through the neighborhood.
Descriptions of potentially suspicious vehicles, including license plates, makes and models, should be written down and even reported.
Any emergency or in-progress suspicious lead should be reported to the sheriff's dispatch center at (650) 363-4911 or by calling 911.
