60 Dead, Hundreds Hurt In Texas Fertilizer Plant Explosion
WEST, Texas (CBS) -- A fire and explosion at a fertilizer plant near Waco on Wednesday night killed as many as 60 or 70 people and injured hundreds more. It sent flames shooting high into the night sky, left the factory a smoldering ruin and caused major damage to surrounding buildings.
The blast happened shortly before 8 p.m. at West Fertilizer in West, a small community about 20 miles north of Waco, and could be heard as far as 45 miles away.
