6.6 Preliminary Magnitude Earthquake Rocks Papua New Guinea
(CBS SF) -- A preliminary magnitude 6.6 earthquake has struck in the New Britain Region 120 miles south of Taron, Papua New Guinea.
The USGS reports that the quake struck at 8 a.m. PST and occurred at a depth of 6.2 miles.
The Pacific Tsunami Warning Center had not issued a tsunami warning for the quake.
A magnitude 6.3 earthquake struck the Kermadec Islands Region off the coast of New Zealand Thursday afternoon.
A third massive 7.9 revised magnitude earthquake off Alaska's remote Aleutian Islands triggered a regional tsunami last week.
