5-Year-Old Ejected From SUV, Killed In Richmond Rollover Crash
RICHMOND (CBS SF) - A 5-year-old girl died after she was ejected from an SUV during a rollover crash in Richmond Monday morning, a police detective said.
Richmond police received a report at 8:10 a.m. of a crash at Richmond Parkway and Hilltop Drive, Detective Nicole Abetkov said.
Officers arrived and found the girl suffering from major head injuries. She was transported to a hospital where she died at about 8:50 a.m., Abetkov said.
The girl was not wearing a seat belt and was not in a child safety seat at the time of the accident, Abetkov said.
There were six people total in the vehicle, including a 7-year-old and a teenager, she said. The other five people suffered minor to moderate injuries.
According to Abetkov, only the driver was buckled up.
An initial investigation indicated that speed could have been a factor in the crash, Abetkov said.
Police are continuing to investigate the accident, which did not involve any other cars.
The crash shut down parts of Richmond Parkway and Hilltop Drive.
