SANTA CLARA (CBS SF) -- The San Francisco 49ers will don their new black uniforms for their first game, a nationally televised Monday Night Football matchup against the Minnesota Vikings.
The 49ers unveiled the team's first-ever alternate uniform in April, featuring black jersey and black pants with red numbers and red trim.

The NFL allows teams to use alternate uniforms for a maximum of two regular season games.
The idea for the black uniform came from the practice jersey quarterback Colin Kaepernick has worn for the last few seasons, used to remind defenders during practice to keep their distance.
Aside from the regular season opener at Levi's Stadium, the 49ers also announced they would wear the uniforms in Week 12 when they face the Arizona Cardinals.
