49ers Return Home After Near Miss In Super Bowl
SAN JOSE (CBS SF) - After a crushing loss in the Super Bowl, the San Francisco 49ers arrived at Norman Y. Mineta San Jose International Airport Monday afternoon to a hero's welcome.
The team touched down and was immediately taken straight to 49ers headquarters in Santa Clara as fans cheered their arrival.
The 49ers lost 34-31 to the Baltimore Ravens on Sunday in New Orleans, the first Super Bowl loss in the team's history.
The 49ers trailed by 22 points in the third quarter and, following an in-stadium blackout, roared back to get within five points before stalling near the goal line on a late drive to take the lead.
It was the team's sixth trip to the Super Bowl and first since 1995.
