49ers Set For 1st Game In New Home At Levi's Stadium
SANTA CLARA (CBS SF) -- The San Francisco 49ers will play the first NFL game at their new Levi's Stadium home in Santa Clara Sunday, a preseason matchup against the Denver Broncos.
The game will be another test for Santa Clara and stadium officials on handling a huge gameday crowd, after some missteps during the first sporting event at the stadium, when the San Jose Earthquakes beat the Seattle Sounders earlier this month.
Since then, there have been a few other firsts at the $1.2 billion facility. Last week, renowned chef and hardcore 49er fan Michael Mina put the finishing touches on a high-end restaurant and pub at Levi's stadium that will also host tailgate parties for season-ticket holders. The stadium also opened a 49ers museum last week that features 11 gallery and exhibit spaces.
The 49ers will also play one more preseason game at Levi's Stadium on August 24 against the San Diego Charges before their regular season home opener, a Sunday night prime-time matchup against the Chicago Bears on September 14.
Tickets for upcoming 49ers aren't going cheap. Two games at Levi's this season are among the top five most expensive to attend, with seats for the 49ers-Seahawks Thanksgiving Day game selling for nearly $600 on the secondary marketplaces.
Fans without a ticket hoping to see Sunday's preseason game against the Broncos can watch from the comfort of their homes. KPIX 5 coverage of the game begins Sunday at noon.
