49ers Atop NFL Power Rankings After Week 1
SAN FRANCISCO (CBS SF) -- The San Francisco 49ers hold down the top spot in the NFL power rankings after the first week of the regular season.
The 49ers retained first place in Tuesday's rankings after rallying to beat the Green Bay Packers over the weekend. The Denver Broncos remained in second place after Peyton Manning's virtuoso seven-touchdown performance sent them past the Baltimore Ravens in a rematch of last year's dramatic AFC playoff game.
Colin Kaepernick dazzled in the 49ers' season opener, throwing for a career-high 412 yards and three touchdowns. But it was the play of wide receiver Anquan Boldin that stood out to many fans and commentators alike. He had 13 catches for 208 yards and a touchdown for coach Jim Harbaugh, and surely made Ravens coach John Harbaugh rue the trade that sent him away.
The Seattle Seahawks continued at third place despite struggling to a 12-7 win over Carolina, while the Packers stayed at fourth despite their loss to the 49ers.
Houston jumped to fifth after erasing a 21-point deficit to beat San Diego 31-28 on Monday night, while the Chicago Bears jumped to sixth and New England remained seventh after squeaking past Buffalo.
The Indianapolis Colts, New Orleans Saints and Atlanta Falcons round out the top 10.
The Oakland Raiders climbed from the cellar to No. 31 after a 21-17 loss to Indianapolis. They jumped over the Jacksonville Jaguars, who lost 28-2 to Kansas City.
The next NFL power rankings will be released Sept. 17.
