Report: 49ers sign free agent linebacker De'Vondre Campbell
The San Francisco 49ers found their help at linebacker, agreeing to a one-year deal with free agent De'Vondre Campbell, according to reports.
A person familiar with the move said on Friday that Campbell will sign with San Francisco as soon as he passes a physical. The person spoke on condition of anonymity because the move hadn't been announced.
NFL Network first reported the deal.
San Francisco also added a cornerback on Friday, agreeing to a one-year contract with Isaac Yiadom, according to his agent AJ Vaynerchuk.
The Niners were looking for help at linebacker with the status of Dre Greenlaw in question after he tore his Achilles tendon during the Super Bowl loss against Kansas City. They nearly finalized a deal with Eric Kendricks earlier this week only to have him sign with Dallas instead.
Oren Burks, the team's third linebacker last season, is a free agent. San Francisco did reach a deal to bring back Demetrius Flannigan-Fowles earlier this week.
Campbell entered the league as a fourth-round pick for Atlanta in 2016 when 49ers coach Kyle Shanahan was offensive coordinator for the Falcons.
He spent his first four seasons in Atlanta and one in Arizona before breaking through in 2021 in Green Bay. He had 146 tackles, five passes defensed and two interceptions that season and earned first-team All-Pro honors.
Campbell, who turns 31 in July, was unable to match that production the past two seasons when he missed 10 games with injuries. But he does give San Francisco a dependable starter alongside All-Pro Fred Warner until Greenlaw returns and then can fill the third linebacker role after that.
Campbell was released by Green Bay this week with three years remaining on the five-year, $50 million contract he signed in 2022.
The 28-year-old Yiadom played 17 games with eight starts last season for New Orleans. He had 14 passes defensed and one interception for the Saints. Yiadom had previously played for Denver, the Giants, Green Bay and Houston.
The 49ers also finalized deals to bring right guard Jon Feliciano back for another season and to sign defensive back Chase Lucas.
Feliciano started seven games in the 2023 regular season and all three in the playoffs in his first season with San Francisco, playing mostly at right guard. He announced his decision to return on social media, when he also expressed relief that he won't have to block Aaron Donald anymore after the Los Angeles Rams' star announced his retirement.
The 32-year-old Feliciano was a strong run blocker and should be in the mix to start this season at right guard along with Spencer Burford.
Lucas agreed to the deal to leave Detroit and sign with the Niners, according to his agent Jamal Tooson. Lucas spent the past two seasons with the Lions after being drafted in the seventh round in 2022.
He has played almost exclusively on special teams the past two years but does have some experience playing in the slot on defense.
