Cal Fire Says Butts Canyon Fire Contained To 55 Percent; All Road Closures Lifted
ST. HELENA (KCBS ) — Firefighters working to contain a destructive wildfire churning through rural Napa County said they have made sizable gains over Thursday night.
Cal Fire crews won 55 percent containment of the Butts Canyon Fire, up from 30 percent on Wednesday, largely in part to favorable weather conditions that allowed crews to burn away fuel on the fire's Lake County flank.
Cal Fire spokesman Daniel Berlant told KCBS that crews are getting the upper hand.
"We've definitely turned the corner holding back this fire. We've done such a good job yesterday that were able to actually get the residents that had been evacuated earlier in the week back into their homes so most residents were allowed back into their homes yesterday afternoon," he said.
The size of the fire remains at more than six square miles. The fire has burned two homes and seven outbuildings.
The last road closure -- on Butts Canyon and Guenoc roads about two miles west of the
Lake County line -- reopened at noon Friday.

The fie burning to the north, away from the county's famed vineyards.
A second blaze, in San Diego County, has destroyed two homes and threatening hundreds more.
