4 Suspects Nabbed After Danville Jewelry Heist
DANVILLE (CBS SF) -- Four people suspected of stealing a ring worth $25,000 from a Danville couple who advertised the jewelry on Craigslist were arrested Friday afternoon, and two of the four suspects were arrested within minutes of the attempted pilfering, police said.
The daylight robbery occurred at Smith Jewelers, located at 250 Railroad Ave. in Danville, around 2:40 p.m., according to police.
An individual contacted the couple and said he wished to purchase the ring. Police said the would-be buyer arranged to meet with the couple at Smith Jewelers, where a gemologist could verify the ring's value.
During the gemologist's inspections, the man allegedly grabbed the ring, knocked down the seller and fled the store, police said.
Police received a flurry of 911 calls that were prompted by the theft, and officers quickly converged on the scene.
At 2:46 p.m., in the parking lot of the Denny's restaurant on Camino Ramon, officers stopped a vehicle that police believed belonged to the suspects.
Two suspects, including the person believed to have stolen the ring, were arrested and the ring was recovered.
Later in their investigation, police located two more suspects in the area and arrested them for allegedly participating as lookouts in the robbery.
Police arrested Danielle Williams, 24, of Oakland; Clarence Andrews, 36, of Oakland; Michael Martin, 37, of Tracy; and Laray Peterson, 26, of Tracy.
Williams and Andrews are suspected of conspiracy and grand theft. Martin was arrested on suspicion of conspiracy, grand theft and possession of stolen property, and Peterson was suspected of robbery, possession of stolen property, and burglary, according to police.
All four suspects were transported to the Martinez Detention Facility.
