Crews Contain 4-Alarm Grass Fire In West Vacaville
VACAVILLE (CBS SF) -- A four-alarm fire that threatened homes and forces mandatory evacuations in the Grandview Drive area of Vacaville Friday afternoon has been contained, according to the Vacaville Police Department.
The fire in the hills west of Grandview Drive in west Vacaville was reported around 12:30 p.m., a police dispatcher said. Police have warned people living in the area to leave.
As of 2 p.m., the fire had burned 20 acres.
The right lane of westbound I-80 has been closed due to the fire. Motorists are advised to expect delays and to use alternate routes. The estimated time of reopening the late is 5 p.m.
At 1:18 p.m., police ordered a mandatory evacuation of Grandview Drive off Alamo Drive. A subsequent tweet designated the Three Oaks Community Center as an evacuation site.
Police said air support was dropping fire retardant on the fire. Crews from the Vacaville, Travis, and Fairfield Fire Departments all helped battle the fire.
At about 2:45 p.m., police tweeted that the fire was largely contained. Those evacuated from their homes were set to be allowed to return by around 3:15 p.m.
