4 Accused Of Growing Marijuana Inside Rented Antioch Home
ANTIOCH (BCN) -- Four San Francisco men were arrested Thursday in connection with an illegal marijuana growing operation at a rental house in Antioch, an Antioch police lieutenant said Monday.
Police discovered the grow after a citizen called around 11:20 a.m. to report a suspicious-looking vehicle parked in front of a house in the 4500 block of Imperial Way.
When officers talked to the man in the vehicle, he told them he had been hired to clean a house, Lt. Diane Aguinaga said.
The officers went to the house to confirm the man's story and spoke with a resident. While they were talking to him, they allegedly saw evidence of a marijuana growing operation inside, Aguinaga said.
Detectives were called to the scene and allegedly determined that the crop was illegal and had recently been processed. The occupants of the house were reportedly in the process of dismantling the equipment, police said.
The group had allegedly grown about 500 marijuana plants. Several bags of the plants were still at the house. Police estimated that they yielded about two pounds of finished product, Aguinaga said.
Police detained the man in the car, and three people who were inside the house. While they were investigating, a fifth person arrived at the house and was also detained.
The man driving the car was later released pending further investigation.
The other four men were booked into county jail in Martinez on suspicion of illegal marijuana cultivation.
They have been identified as Doung Tran, 44, Thiet Nong, 46, Vinh Tran, 46, and Cuong Hoang, 28.
