30 Laptops Stolen From Napa Elementary School, Reward Offered
NAPA (CBS SF) - The Napa Valley Unified School District is offering a $1,000 reward for information about the theft of 30 laptop computers from the Alta Heights Elementary School over the weekend.
The Apple MacBooks are worth $1,000 each, but each contained $500 worth of software, the school district's director of elementary education Maren Rocca Hunt said Wednesday afternoon.
Hunt said they were stolen from a locked cabinet in a classroom between Thursday night and Monday afternoon.
School employees, including Principal Matt Manning, discovered the theft Monday, Hunt said.
Some of the loss will be covered by insurance but students in the K-5 school are considering a fundraiser, and the district also is accepting donations, Hunt said.
The Alta Heights Elementary School at 15 Montecito Blvd. is a magnet school that emphasizes the study of art, technology, science and math, Hunt said. The laptops were purchased with a federal magnet school grant.
