3 Lanes At Bay Bridge Toll Plaza Closed For Fastrak Conversion
OAKLAND (CBS SF) -- Ahead of the five-day San Francisco-Oakland Bay Bridge closure next week, several lanes at the span's toll plaza in Oakland are closed this weekend to make way for more FasTrak access.
Three lanes on the right side of the Bay Bridge toll plaza will be closed to add a new FasTrak-only lane.
Toll lanes No. 16, 17 and 18 closed at 9 p.m. on Friday and will reopen at 5 a.m. Monday.
FasTrak drivers who approach the tollbooth from Interstate Highway 880 or West Grand Avenue will be able to use two bus-only lanes at the far right of the toll plaza. Those lanes are normally reserved for buses.
The conversion of one lane into a FasTrak lane is the last step in a project started in July by Caltrans and the Bay Area Toll Authority, which is part of the Metropolitan Transportation Commission.
Other bridges in the area including the Carquinez, Dumbarton and Richmond-San Rafael bridges, have already completed toll system upgrades.
