3 Killed In Highway 101 Crash In San Jose
SAN JOSE (CBS SF) -- Three people died in a traffic collision on southbound U.S. Highway 101 in San Jose early Saturday morning, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The CHP investigation into the collision determined that at 12:46 a.m. a 1996 Jeep with four occupants was parked on the right shoulder of southbound U.S. Highway 101, just north of the Blossom Hill Road off-ramp.
A 1994 Honda with one occupant was traveling southbound on U.S. Highway 101 in the far right lane at about 65 mph, when it struck the Jeep from behind, causing the Jeep to overturn and travel down an embankment, according to the CHP.
The driver of the Jeep, a 58-year-old Carmel man, was pronounced deceased at the scene and all three passengers in the Jeep were transported to local hospitals, where two passengers succumbed to their injuries. The passengers who were pronounced deceased at the hospital were a 63-year-old man and a 54-year-old woman, both resident of Los Angeles. The remaining passenger, a 55-year-old Carmel woman, was treated for minor injuries, according to the CHP.
The driver of the Honda, a 28-year-old San Jose woman, was transported to a hospital with minor injuries.
