3 Family Members Killed In Stockton Home Invasion; 6-Year-Old Escapes To Find Help
STOCKTON (CBS SF) -- Sheriff's deputies were trying to figure out why two unknown men entered a Stockton family's home and opened fire as they slept late Friday night.
"I don't know what I'm going to do. I look at her house and I still can't believe she's gone," said neighbor Briza Martinez.
Around 11:45 p.m., the San Joaquin County Sheriff's Office received a 911 call from a man claiming he and his girlfriend had been shot, along with other family members.
Deputies responded to the 3100 block of S. Laurel Street and found five people with gunshot wounds in the home. Three of the victims were pronounced dead at the scene.
They were identified as Olivia and Fidel Ruiz, a couple in their 50s, and their son Manuel.
Two others were taken to a nearby hospital for treatment and were in stable condition.
Neighbors said the 6-year-old grandson of the killed couple, son of their son Manuel, managed to escape and ran to nearby homes looking for help.
"My neighbor, he saw him, and he took him in and (the boy) said 'my daddy got shot,' and he said he saw his grandma die and he's just in shock," said Martinez.
The victims told investigators they are unsure of why the two men entered the home and opened fire. Police have yet to establish a motive, but neighbors believe someone was targeted.
"She just had a bad feeling that one of these days they were gonna come and shoot them. She didn't know why," said Martinez.
Neighbors said they saw two Hispanic men leaving after hearing gunshots. The suspects are reported to be in their 30s, one was tall and the other short.
A memorial was set up in front of the home for the killed family members Saturday night. Several neighbors gathered outside the home, saying prayers and holding candles.
"I'm here for you guys. I'm here for you guys and whatever you need. I'm here for you guys and you guys are not alone," said Martinez.
No arrests have been made at this time, but investigators say the suspects fled in a black truck that was parked across the street from the home.
Neighbors say the 6-year-old boy is now with Child Protective Services.
