3 Arrested In Separate Livermore Burglaries, One Ending In Police Chase
BYRON (CBS SF) - Two Bay Point men were arrested Wednesday after leading police on a multi-county car chase that began as a Livemore home burglary, a police sergeant said. A third man was also arrested in a separate Livermore burglary.
At about 1:35 p.m. Wednesday, a Livermore officer spotted a suspicious car with a man in the driver's seat in the area of Winding Stream Drive, Livermore police Sgt. John Hurd said.
The officer circled the area and saw a man carrying a backpack near a home. He threw the bag over a fence and jumped it into a residential yard, Hurd said.
Hurd said the officer set up a perimeter and when he got into view of the car, now occupied by two men, the vehicle fled.
The officer pursued the car, believed to be linked to a burglary, Hurd said.
The car drove through the residential area and eventually turned onto North Vasco Road, heading north at a high rate of speed, according to Hurd.
When the chase exited Livermore, the California Highway Patrol took over the pursuit, he said.
The suspects began throwing property out of the window, the sergeant said.
The driver - later identified as Todd Michael, 48, of Bay Point - then turned onto Camino Diablo Road and traveled into Byron. At that point, the passenger - Ramon Caudle, 29, of Bay Point - jumped out of the car, he said.
Michael soon after lost control of the car and crashed into a power pole near Bixler Road, Hurd said.
Michael was arrested and taken to a hospital to be treated for minor injuries, Hurd said.
With the help of the Dublin and Contra Costa County CHP offices and the Contra Costa County Sheriff's Office, Caudle was found in a field west of the Byron Airport and was arrested, Hurd said.
Caudle was taken to a hospital to be treated for a bite received while attempting to evade a police K-9, he said.
No officers were injured in the pursuit.
The car used by Michael and Caudle was a rental and all of the property thrown out of the car was collected, the sergeant said.
Both Michael and Caudle were booked into the Santa Rita Jail on suspicion of burglary and evading police.
During the chase, another burglary in Livermore was reported on Hibiscus Way. The resident reported two men inside the home, burglarizing it, Hurd said.
Officers arrested one suspect, Shane Singleton, 19, of Livermore, but were unable to locate the second, he said. Singleton was booked into Santa Rita Jail.
The two burglaries do not appear to be connected, Hurd said.
